Planning a trip to Mauritius? While English and French are widely spoken, learning a few words in Mauritian Creole (Kreol Morisien) can make your island experience even more special. Whether you're boarding a boat, shopping at a local market, or chatting with your guide, these easy phrases will help you connect with locals and feel the island vibes!

1. Bonzur! – Hello!

Start your day with a friendly Bonzur! and you’ll get smiles everywhere you go.

2. Ki manyer? – How are you?

A great way to greet someone:

Ki manyer? (kee man-yeah?)

Response: Mo bien, ek ou? (I’m good, and you?)

3. Mersi – Thank you

You’ll use this one a lot!

Add Mersi boukou if you really mean it.

4. Mo kontan Moris – I love Mauritius

Locals will love hearing this – perfect after a breathtaking view or a delicious meal.

5. Ale! – Let’s go!

Whether you're jumping on the speedboat or heading to lunch, say Ale! with enthusiasm.

6. Enn biere, silvouple – A beer, please

Always useful at a beach BBQ or bar. Cheers!

7. Zoli – Beautiful

Use this for the sea, the sunset, or even your lunch. Everything is zoli in Mauritius.

8. Mo apel… – My name is…

Example: Mo apel Jane. (My name is Jane) – A great icebreaker!

9. Mo pe amize – I'm having fun

Say this during your trip – it always gets a happy reaction.

10. A la prosen – See you next time

A sweet way to say goodbye to new friends you’ve made.
